Born in Newton Massachusetts; Ray Tangent was raised in a solid Christian home. His mother and father met and graduated from Andover Newton Seminary. His father was ordained and spent his entire career as a Baptist minister. Music became Ray's talent given by God starting piano at age 7 then began trumpet at age 9. He got into guitar in the 9th grade, drums in 10th grade, then played in his first rock band shortly after. Ray was accepted to Fredonia State University as a music major (trumpet).
In college Ray pretty much turned his back on Christ and used the talents God had given him for his own glory. He left school to play the club scene. At this point in his life, God stepped in and shut his music career down. He didn't understand it at the time and was bitter for the next 20 years over working in corporate America and not doing what he really loved and was called to do. In 1996, Ray was led to Bergen United Methodist Church where God showed Ray how to use the gifts for the Glory of God. Being able to express his praise for God and leading others to a life in Christ, both as a drummer with the Bergen Praise Band and a bass player with all4wut?, is a wonderful fulfilment for Ray.
